The National Pet market currently sets 9.6 billion Brazilian reals in motion and it may be divided by segment into 4 important groups, which represents, in terms of revenue, the following proportions: Pet Food - 64%, Services - 20%, Equipment and Accessories

(hygiene, grooming, etc.) - 9%, and Vet Medicines - 7%. The Pet Food Segment, which accounts for the largest share in the sector´s revenue, reached productions of over 1,700 tons in 2009.

According to a study carried out by the Anfapet (National Association of Pet Food Manufacturers), the World Pet market amounts to 73 billion dollars and Brazil accounts for 6% of this total.

In this Brazilian share, it is possible to find a market with a population of 84.04 million; with these numbers, Brazil is placed second in the world market in terms of dog and cat population.

Pet South America gathers around 20,000 professionals at its 9th edition and counted on two renowned congresses and marked the week with new innovations released for the pet and veterinary segment.

NürnbergMesse Brasil held the 9th edition of Pet South American, the main event aimed at the pet and veterinary market in Latin America, at Expo Center Norte from October 6th to the 8th. The event hosted around 20,000 visitors from many countries. There were 200 brands on display showing innovations and trends in animal health, food, beauty and accessories.

Ligia Amorim, General Director of NürnbergMesse Brasil, highlights the importance of the event to the segment "Our goal is to bring the most expressive companies from the sector together, strengthen relationships and provide an environment where new business can be created. We are happy with the 9th edition, because we met professionals who are interested in getting an edge in the sector with eco-friendly innovations and trends and technological innovations", she celebrated.

During the fair, visitors could check out many new releases, such as the cosmetics line with Winetherapy from Emporio Pet, a Swarovski collar from Mestre Pet, a microship for animal identification from Provet, a cupuaçu brush and a tropical bath from

Pet Society, recyclable diapers and bags for transportation from Dog´s Care and as well as many activities such as the 2nd edition of the Groom Brasil grooming contest.



With the purpose of offering debates, discussions, studies and research to the professionals in this field and those in the academic community, two renowned congresses were held alongside the 9th Pet South America - the 10th Conpavepa - São Paulo Congress of Small Animal Clinical Veterinarians - and the 8th Conpavet - São Paulo Veterinary Medicine Congress.

The lecturers, which are the result of the partnership between the Sociedade Paulista de Medicina Veterinária - SPMV (São Paulo Veterinary Medicine Society) and the National Association of Small Animal Clinical Veterinarians (Anclivepa), gathered around 1,600 professionals from the sector. Both organizations recognize the growth of Pet South America as a business platform and a meeting place for the veterinary segment across South America.


An event held by consultant Sérgio Lobato with the support and organization by NürnbergMesse Brasil the 6th edition of the Pet Retailers Seminar brought together many professionals from the segment on October 7th and 8th. These professionals had the opportunity to get to know the trends and innovations for the Pet Shop segment.


The National Grooming Contest, held by the Negócios Pet Magazine, with the support of Pet South America, hosted the 2nd edition of Groom Brasil at Pet South America. The contest awarded the best groomers in the following categories: Professional, Cats, Brazil, Creative and New Talents.

EVALUATION OF THE EVENT (on a scale of 1 to 10)
The 2010 Pet South America exhibitors rated it at 8.7 the importance of the fair in the company marketing strategy and a final grade of 8.4% for the event.


- International visitors from 30 different countries;
- 73% of the international visitors are made up of people from Latin and Central America;
- Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru and the United States amount to 53% of the international visitors.

- 64% of the visitors are business owners, partners, presidents, directors or managers;
- 80% of them participate in the decision-making process, purchasing or recommendation of products and services.

- 94% of the visitors say that the products and services on display met their expectations;
- On a scale from 1 to 10, the visitors rated it at 8.8 the event´s general evaluation;
- 99% say they are interested in visiting the Pet South America 2011 edition.
